Flutist JoAnna Byng moved to Maui in 2001. She graduated with her Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, Massachusetts. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Her teachers include Sally Nichols, Teresa Texiera, Natalie Kruger and Iva Milch. Ms. Byng also plays flute and piccolo in the Maui Pops Orchestra and as a substitute in the Hawaii Symphony. Since moving the Maui, she has been featured as a soloist with the Kona Music Society and with the Maui Chamber Orchestra playing the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 4. Ms. Byng has played in various orchestras and ensembles in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Hawaii. Ms. Byng teaches flute and piano privately. Aside from her musical life, she enjoys raising her son and is Fitness Coordinator and Fitness Specialist at Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club in Kaanapali.
