Kathryn Schulmeister is a double bassist from Honolulu, Hawaii. She performs regularly with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, the Hot Club of Hulaville, and various other musical groups. With a wide range of musical interests including improvisation, experimental, classical, jazz, and avant-garde contemporary, Kathryn has performed with several adventurous ensembles including the Lucerne Festival Young Artists, which recently performed a 6 city tour of Switzerland and Luxembourg in March 2017.
In September 2017, Kathryn will pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Contemporary Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and completed her Master of Music degree at the McGill University Schulich School of Music in Montréal, receiving numerous scholarships during her studies including the Austrian Society Scholarship, the Clara Lichtenstein Fellowship, and National Public Radio’s From the Top Scholarship.
