In 2002, Sharon began her musical career on piano at 8 years old, under the care and teaching of Ms. Ruth Murata-Eisen. In 2007, she began to play the oboe at ʻIao School. From 2007 until her high school graduation in 2012, Sharon was an active member of the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony, Pacific Music Institute, Maui Pops Orchestra, Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Maui Community Band, alongside Baldwin High School’s concert, marching, pit, and jazz ensembles. Sharon continued her study in music, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Oboe Performance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2015, Sharon was awarded the Nevada state soloist winner in the national MTNA Performance Competition. In 2019, she graduated from Northwestern University with a Master’s Degree in Oboe Performance. Sharon has served as an Oboe clinician for the Pacific Music Institute and Bocal Majority Double Reed Camp. She has studied under Susan Ochi-Onishi, Dr. Stephen Caplan, Michael
Henoch, Robert Morgan, and Scott Hostetler. After living in Las Vegas for five years and spending three in Chicago, Sharon will be continuing her music career as Assistant Band Director at Henry Perrine Baldwin High School this fall. Sharon is forever grateful to her supportive family and music teachers who have helped her love for music grow.
