In 2002, Sharon began her musical career on piano at 8 years old under the care and teaching of Ms. Ruth Murata-Eisen. In 2007, she began to play the Oboe at Iao School. From 2007 until her high school graduation in 2012, Sharon was an active member of the Hawaii Youth Symphony, Pacific Music Institute, Maui Pops Orchestra, Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Maui Community Band alongside Baldwin High School’s concert, marching, pit, and jazz ensembles. Sharon continued her study in music, majoring in Music Education and Oboe Performance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Through her college career thus far, she has held principal spots in the UNLV Symphony Orchestra, UNLV Wind Orchestra, UNLV Symphonic Winds, Henderson Symphony, and the Desert Winds Contemporary Ensemble, who were invited to perform in the Midwest Music Educator’s Clinic in December 2016. She also performed on Horn and Sousaphone in UNLV’s Star of Nevada Marching Band. In 2015, Sharon was awarded the Nevada state soloist winner in the national MTNA Performance Competition. In 2016, she recorded alongside Eric Marienthal, Bernie Dresel, Kevin Axt, and Mitch Forman in the Wind Orchestra’s most recent CD album: The Return. In the same year, Sharon was able to perform in La Croix Valmer, France for the annual Summer Music Festival under the direction of Thomas G. Leslie and Col. John Bourgeois. Sharon has served as an Oboe clinician for The Pacific Music Institute and Bocal Majority Double Reed Camp. She has studied under Susan Ochi-Onishi and Dr. Stephen Caplan. Sharon is forever grateful to her supportive family and music teachers that have helped her love for music grow.
