Born on Maui, Sue began her musical career at age 5, taking piano lessons from Ruth Kesaji, through high school. Originally wanting to play the clarinet or flute, the French Horn was chosen during the 5th grade at Lihikai School when Band was first offered and Lihikai school ran through the 8th grade, studying under Mr. Ed Matsushita. Attending H.P. Baldwin High School under the direction of Mr. Lance Jo, sealed her love for music and decided to major in Music. She attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, where she was involved in the various music programs as well as a brass ensemble made up of other WWU students & grad students, which traveled throughout the Bellingham-Seattle area performing at various churches.
Sue has played in the Maui Symphony Orchestra, Haleakala Chamber Orchestra, Maui Brass Ensemble, MAPA’s production of Les Miserables and Jekyll & Hyde, Baldwin High School’s various drama productions (as an alumni), and is currently with the Maui Community Band, Maui Pops Orchestra, and the Maui Chamber Orchestra. She is the HR/Finance Manager for Family Life Center, married with two children, and feels one of her greatest pleasures has been the opportunity to play alongside her daughter Sharon (oboe) in the different venues mentioned.
