A Message about the Pandemic
The Lost Season
Like most performing arts organizations, Maui Chamber Orchestra has faced unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic. The final two concerts of our 2019-20 season were canceled, and the 2020-21 season had to be postponed in its entirety. Thanks to the generosity of our Sustaining Contributors and the assistance of the federal Payroll Protection Program, we have been able to “keep the lights on,” covering our minimum operating expenses.
With impending widespread vaccination now offering the promise of a return to something like normal life, MCO is now projecting (and hoping) that we can offer a standard season in 2021-22. This will feature three orchestra concerts (with guest artists) and three chamber music concerts, along with a special concert featuring the Maui Chamber Orchestra Chorus. See the concert listings for more details.
CHALLENGE GRANT — $25,000 by July 1
As we prepare for a resounding 2021-22 re-opening, we are thrilled to announce extraordinary support from the Anderman Family Foundation, in the form of two separate gifts—of $10,000 and $25,000—this year. Donor Sig Anderman challenges the rest of the community to match his generosity with an additional $25,000 in individual contributions by July 1, 2021. Please visit the MCO website to contribute now.
As ever, we are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of all of MCO’s contributors, especially during this most difficult of years. You are the reason we exist.
We cannot offer holiday greetings without first acknowledging the enormity of the loss experienced this year, not just in our community, but throughout the nation and around the world. Words scarcely suffice to express our collective grief. But music can help contain it, and provide a measure of comfort. In that spirit, we offer you the opportunity to revisit MCO’s 2019 Holiday Concert, “And on Earth, Peace.” And we wish you happy (and healthy!) holidays, with hope for resounding joy in the new year.
